This assignment requires you to create an outline for your facility’s Personnel Policy manual using the Sample List of Personnel Policies, the List of Suggested Additional Policies (below) as well as the Division of Child Development and Early Education’s (DCDEE) Operational and Personnel Checklist (attached to assignment).

The goal of this assignment is to help you identify what personnel policies you would need to establish and run an early childhood facility. If you are currently working in a center, you may use that personnel policy manual as a basis for design and comparison. For those of you looking to open your child care facilities (or improve one already operating) the hope is that you will take this prepared outline and fill it out with the full content for each policy—and have a product ready to present to potential and hired employees.

Note: You do not have to write the actual policy at this point. You are only creating an outline of the policies you believe should be included.

a) Choose those titles for which you believe you should have a policy and eliminate any you do not feel will apply, (i.e. if you are not able to offer benefits, you would not include that), but beware—and refer to your reading—some are required by law.

b) Put the policies chosen into sections (you may use the section headings that the sample list provides or create your own),

c) Add any policies that you believe are needed based on your own research and experience. Be sure you have included the DCDEE personnel policy requirements.

d) Write a summary that describes the document you have outlined and policies you have included and excluded. Explain why the policies you chose to include fit your center (the real or imaginary one you have created a mission and philosophy statement for) and how you will set these policies to align with what you have in your mission statement.
